Article: LC triumphs at LUPRICAA ‘09


LORMA Colleges emerged victorious in the 2009 La Union Private Colleges Athletic Association (LUPRICAA) meet held on November 17 to 20.

Lormanians have once again proven their skills through sports. They bagged 11 gold medals in the men’s division: 200 m run, table tennis (single 1 and doubles), Taekwondo (featherweight, lightweight, and welterweight), and Karate (kata). Meanwhile, 4 gold medals were bagged in the women’s division: lawn tennis (single 1, single 2, and doubles) and table tennis (single 2).

Moreover, Lormanians secured 12 silver medals in the men’s division: volleyball, sepak takraw, 400 m run, table tennis (single 1), Taekwondo (flyweight and bantamweight), and Karate (pinweight). Five silver medals were secured in the women’s division: volleyball, badminton (single 1), chess (board 1), table tennis (double), and taekwondo (pinweight). “I developed my skills in playing volleyball. It’s a great honor to have the silver medal. We didn’t expect any medal,” said one of Lorma’s athletes.

Lorma obtained 5 bronze medals in the men’s division: badminton (doubles), lawn tennis (doubles), Taekwondo (pinweight), and Karate (flyweight and bantamweight). Lorma’s women athletes acquired 3 bronze medals: badminton (single 2 and doubles) and chess (board 2).

LUPRICAA is composed of Agoo Computer College, AMA-Computer College La Union, CICOSAT College, Congress College, La Union College of Science and Technology, La Union College of Nursing, Arts and Sciences, Lorma Colleges, Northern Philippines College of Maritime Science and Technology, Philippine Central College of Arts, Science and Technology, Polytechnic College of La Union, Saint Louis College, Sea and Sky College, Southern Ilocandia College of Arts and Trade, STI College-La Union, St. John Bosco College, and Union Christian College. With the theme “Sports for Global Peace,” the event was hosted by Union Christian College.
