Article: CITEDH-R1 holds IT seminar workshop


A research seminar cum workshop was held on January 22, 2010 at Lorma Medical Center Heliport. The event was designed to produce much necessary research output in IT, as prioritized by the officers and members of the Council of ITE Deans and Heads of Region I (CITEDH-R1).

The activity aimed to equip participants with needed techniques and skills that will enable them to produce research outputs in the field of Information Technology.

Dr. Henry Galuba, Research and Faculty Development coordinator of Lorma Colleges talked about information power and the competitiveness of IT students in the Philippines. He also stated that in competitiveness, the Philippines ranks 10th among 17 ASEAN countries and 47th among 66 countries worldwide. Meanwhile, research and development in the Philippines is on the 16th spot in ASEAN and on the 62nd place worldwide.

“The topic is interesting, the speaker is excellent, he knows a lot and he is citing a lot of knowledge, CITEDH-R1 should organize more activities like this,” expressed Dir. Reynold P. Villacillo, Director of ICTC (Information and Communication Technology Center), Mariano Marcos State University, Batac City, Ilocos Norte.

Dr. Galuba also discussed “Research in the Computing and Engineering Sciences.” He stated that today, money is the source of power, unlike in the past where the mind is only the source.

“He mastered the subject, he has a sense of humor, the topic is presented very well and lastly, the seminar is very educational,” commented Mrs. Noreen and Mr. Mel Miranda, faculty members of Northern Luzon Adventist College, Sison, Pangasinan.

Engr. Reyen Sabate discussed updates from CHED. He reported some developments in Northern Luzon, such those on LUPRICAA, SQUAA, and festivals. Dr. Ana Belen Noble organized the event and served as emcee.
